DISPERSION IS THE INSTRUMENT

White light enters; wavelengths leave at their own angles — through a prism, blue bends more than red. Inside the instrument, a diffraction grating sends every wavelength to its own exact angle with laser precision. Scroll turns the prism.

THE SENSOR COUNTS

The dispersed wavelengths land on the image sensor — column after column of photon counters. Emission lines strike their columns and a spectrum is born. This is a real emission line spectrum forming, line by line.
